Each year professionals from a wide variety of industries come together for a weekend of exploring the latest ergonomics products and research. Called the ErgoExpo, the event takes place in Las Vegas each November, where ergonomics experts from all over the country gather to share developments in their field. The conference offers an excellent forum for discovering new means to increase productivity, profitability, and safety in the workplace.
This year, many new and exciting ergonomic products were introduced at ErgoExpo. These devices represent the industry’s continued dedication to improving the quality and functionality of ergonomic tools:
- The HandShoe Mouse from Hippus perfectly matches the contours of a hand at rest. While a traditional mouse requires gripping and hard clicking, the HandShoeMouse is guided by the arm instead, reducing repetitive stress injuries (RSI). The HandShoe Mouse is available in wired and wireless models.
- Ortho Mouse: The Ortho Mouse by OrthoVia addresses the same ergonomic concerns and seeks to preserve the “position of function” that best suits healthy hands and wrists. Unlike traditional mice, the Ortho Mouse delegates scrolling to the thumb, and clicking is completed with the whole finger, rather than only the tip. Six different configurations are possible with this single device creating six mice in one.
- RollerMouse released a new model of the central input device, the RollerMouse Free. The RollerMouse Free is designed with a long bar that fits in front of the keyboard, with mouse and scroll buttons in the center. It can be operated with either hand and requires no reaching or stretching. There are multiple methods for completing different functions, to prevent overuse or repetitive stress injury.
- For road warriors, the Palm Rest will be a welcome addition to the steering wheel. The rests fit independently on the steering wheel, for custom placement. The Palm Rest significantly reduces muscle fatigue and improves wrist posture, making it an excellent tool for arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome sufferers.
- Space Co’s Wave Light addresses many of the shortcomings of previous CFL and LED task lighting models. The LED task lamp uses a refractive lens, for improved visibility. The Wave Light also reduces energy costs and integrates well with other desk accessories. The swivel design makes it easy to focus light directly where it is needed.
- Also from Space Co, the Scissor Lift. The Scissor Lift is an easy and effective way to convert a standard height desk into a Sit to Stand workstation in seconds at an affordable price. The Scissor Lift is available in three widths and offers over eight inches in height adjustment. It is an easy and effective way to convert a standard height desk into a Sit to Stand workstation in seconds at an affordable price.
The latest ergonomic tools offer new means for protecting health and improving productivity. ErgoExpo offers an invaluable opportunity to discover and implement these new tools, which make the workplace safe and accessible to everyone.
