The Ergonomics of Office Interior Design

Decorating your office? Keep these tips in mind.

If you're designing or decorating your office space, take ergonomics into consideration. These quick tips can make your office can prosper - yielding higher productivity and lower incidence of worker injury.

Indeed, ergonomically-minded interior design produces workspaces that are not only easier to work in, but they also make your office a happier place!

Here's what you need to know:

  1. Usability: The design is useful to people with diverse abilities (i.e., walking, sitting, standing, running around the office delivering documents, etc. It has to be good for everyone using the office).
  2. Flexibility: The design accommodates a wide range of individual preferences and abilities. If one person likes to be in the center of activity, but another works better in a quiet space, this has to be taken in mind when you create your workspace.
  3. Simplicity: Use of the design is easy to understand, regardless of the user’s experience, knowledge, language skills, or current concentration level.
  4. Perceptibility: The design allows for everyone to perceive the space with ease - making it easy to use and navigate.
  5. Safety: The design is hazard-free and allows enough space for people to navigate through the workspace without accidents.
  6. Efficiency: The design can be used efficiently and comfortably.
  7. Accommodations: Provide appropriate size and space for approach, reach, manipulation, and use; regardless of the user’s body size, posture, or mobility.
